TOP POSTS OF 2009!   Leave a comment

Why? Because we wanted to wait until 2009 was over and nobody cared about it to highlight what you, the readers, thought were our most important posts. This is what you were into:

1. SONG OF THE DAY: DENNIS DJ – JONATHAN Ii

That song came out in like 1912 and soldiers sang it on the way to the front during WWI. Why did you want it so much?

2. A FUCK YOU EVERYBODY SONG OF THE DAY: MAJOR LAZER ft SANTIGOLD & MR LEXX – HOLD THE LINE

Ok, that makes more sense.

3. SONG OF THE DAY: TIFA – SPELL IT OUT

This was a pretty good song too. A fun song for fun times. Tifa = best female dancehall MC.

4. SONG OF THE DAY: DIZZEE RASCAL – STAND UP TALL (RADIOCLIT REMIX) (SCHLACHTHOFBRONX REMIX)

Nice! This was one of our favourite this year. Glad people in some part of the world agree because it was not popular in Toronto. In fact, we are the only people that played it that we know of. Schlachthofbronx are easily in the running for top producers of 2009 in our books.

5. SONG OF THE DAY: RYE RYE FT MIA – BANG (BURAKA SOM SISTEMA CARNIVAL REMIX)

Ok, we get this one too. In retrospect this song is not that great but Rye Rye and M.I.A. and Buraka Som Sistema all had a great year so that makes sense. Buraka Som Sistema did a concert in Toronto that was the best concert of 2009.

6. SONG OF THE DAY: ALCIDES – VIOLETA (EL REMOLON REMIX)

The Dirty Frenchman loves this track. It is basicaly the climax of his latest mix. It is like his anthem. It tells the story of his life. And he doesn’t even know what the song is about.

7. ANOTHER ATL HIP HOP SONG OF THE DAY: GUCCI MANE FEAT. YO GOTTI – CHUU

This makes sense because we all know that we’re now allowed to like Gucci Mane. Big Gucci Mane year it was that 2oo9. He has a mixtape with Diplo out today. Different than you thought it would be.

8. OSBCURE DANCEHALL SONG OF THE DAY: WARD 21 – PRESIDENT OF HOOCHIE LAND

Here is another golden oldie that you guys just wanted to read about. It was popular when Teddy Roosevelt was president of the USA. In fact, it was written to celebrate his inauguration.

9. SONG OF THE DAY: OJ DA JUICEMAN – FUCK WIT ME DAWG

The people were searching for OJ Da Juiceman in droves. He touched their hearts and opened their minds.

10. WALMER CONVENIENCE PRESENTS:

That was a pretty good party. Check out the picks here.

Well that is what you were clicking in 2009. That is what people were clamouring for.  Your have looked into the mirror. What do you see?

SONG OF THE DAY DOUBLE POST OF GOODNESS: BASEMENT JAXX – RAINDROPS (DOORLY’S DUBSTEP REMIX) b/w DIZZEE RASCAL AND ARMAND VAN HELDEN – BONKERS (DOORLY’S REMIX)   3 comments

BASEMENT JAXX @ INDUSTRY CIRCA 1999

BASEMENT JAXX @ INDUSTRY

Basement Jaxx – Raindrops (Doorly’s Dubstep Remix) (Zshare)

Not many people would believe this about Plan B, him being such a world’s authority on hip hop and all, but back in the day he was a big Basement Jaxx fan. He even saw them play a couple of times at Industry nightclub back when such a beast existed and Koolhaus (Kool Name!). Even though creatively they’ve taken their own route that Plan B’s interests haven’t always followed, being as magnanimous as he is he still acknowledges when they do something good. Raindrops itself doesn’t really blow his mind as, to him at least, it’s pretty reminiscent of a formula that they’ve been following since their Rooty LP, but this Doorly remix of it is pretty sweet. Much of what Doorly produces is pretty sweet actually.

BET NO ONE BLOGGED DIS PIC BITCH!!

BET NO ONE BLOGGED DIS PIC BITCH!!

Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden – Bonkers (Doorly’s Remix) (Zshare)

Which brings us to double post territory. Not only can Plan B put his giant ego aside to acknowledge the occasional flash of musical greatness, such is also the case when someone brings something good to his attention. This song that The Dirty Frenchman is known for playing is as the title suggests: Bonkers. This turns mild-mannered normally polite Canadian clubs into little Scottish pubs with fanatical footie fans on their 20th pint at the ass end of a Sacred Hearts of Midlothian loss. Foreheads sail for the closest nose bridge and skirts ride up as speakers get straddled. This is the Doorly Dubstep remix too, so this all happens at half speed, kind of like hooliganism on Quaaludes. Whoa. Too deep? That’s enough of this shit for one day.

0:30 of this video very succinctly describes this song.

DON’T FORGET TO COME OUT TO WALMERCLAT THIS SATURDAY!!!

SONG OF THE DAY: DIZZEE RASCAL – STAND UP TALL (RADIOCLIT REMIX) (SCHLACHTHOFBRONX REMIX)   1 comment

Dizzee Rascal

Dizzee Rascal – Stand Up Tall (Radioclit Remix) (Schlachthofbronx Remix)(zshare)

You need some power to get your week going. Weetabix just won’t do anymore. This song is power. Serious power. It is a remix of a remix so it is powerful to the power of four. At the hostel party The Dirty Frenchman spotted this song on Plan B’s computer. His reaction was of surprise. Plan B is a hip hop man, where did he find this song? The Dirty Frenchman proceeded to play it and all his friends said it was amazing and asked him where he found it and The Dirty Frenchman was forced to point at Plan B. To make this song, a sample of another Radioclit (who are very good) remix was added to this Radioclit remix to make something that will make you want to take over a neighbourhood, in the 19th century. Yes. Walmer Convenience wishes they knew where that sample came from because they would use it themselves. They ain’t afraid to steal and shit. There are three in Walmer Convenience and Radioclit is only two. Walmer Convenience wins with muscle. Below is the video of the original vesion of the song before two degrees of remixology.
