Hey there everyone. Have you heard the new Orange Hill Riddim made by the production team Cash Flow Family? Well, it’s pretty groovy as in it sounds like it was made in a submarine under the Arctic Ocean. What we mean is that it has very interesting sound that makes it very unique. There have been a lot of spacey sounding songs coming out in dancehall recently like this. It’s often overlooked that dancehall is a very dynamic genre that can defy the expectations of someone who is not well versed in it. People tend to have very preformed notions as to what constitutes dancehall and even though acts like Major Lazer have given it a boost especially in the dance music world it is still somewhat derided by most people (in North America and Europe outside of the Caribbean diaspora). We kinda hope dancehall never becomes to popularized though. We have the fear that it will become this fragmented thing dissected by music critics and self proclaimed experts like house music. There is french house, deep house, tech house, dutch house, afro house blah blah blah. The things that define genres end up becoming so specific that their lifespan is only a few years long. Anyway this is not Walmer Essay Blog. Did you know that this is happening tonight?:
